UniSC's Tax Clinic provides free tax advice and assistance to eligible individuals and small businesses from UniSC accounting students under the supervision of a registered tax agent. The Clinic is located at UniSC Moreton Bay (Petrie) and also provides services at the UniSC Caboolture campus.
Funding for this clinic is provided through the National Tax Clinic Program — an Australian Government initiative.
Services we offer
The Tax Clinic provides support and assistance with:
- MyGov or ATO online tools
- Tax file number (TFN) registrations or lost/stolen TFNs
- tax advice – income and deductions, GST, PAYG instalments, residency, capital gains tax, small business tax obligations
- lodging income tax returns
- tax debts and payment arrangements, penalty remission request and hardship requests
- registrations for small businesses, including ABNs and GST
- lodging business activity statements
- preparing and lodging objections to ATO decisions
- Other tax issues (please contact us to discuss your needs)

Eligibility
Access to the Tax Clinic’s services is restricted to taxpayers who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Individuals or small business entities
- Living or operating in Australia, and
- Currently unrepresented (do not have a tax agent) and unable to access paid tax advice and assistance due to economic, social, or personal factors.
From time-to-time we may consider matters which do not meet the standard eligibility criteria. Subject to the discretion of the UniSC Tax Clinic Director.
The Tax Clinic will open and start taking applications in February 2025.

To apply for assistance, please complete the online form below.
Review
Once received, your application will be reviewed by our experienced staff in conjunction with a student volunteer.
You will be notified of our outcome of our review once complete. If your application is successful, we will ask you to attend our Moreton Bay or Caboolture office for an initial meeting or online via Zoom or Teams.
Meeting and assessment
The meeting will involve a member of the UniSC Tax Clinic staff and a student volunteer discussing your matter with you in greater detail.
At the conclusion of the meeting, we will advise if we have capacity to assist you moving forward or provide alternative recommendations.
