Moderator Details:
Dr John Whiteoak
Dr John Whiteoak has a PhD in small group dynamics from Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, and has been a university teacher since the mid–1990s.
John has published work in several international management journals including Small Group Research and the Thunderbird International Business Review.
John is also an experienced consultant and trainer who has worked on projects addressing human resource management and organisational change issues.
He has four years of experience working in the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf countries where he has worked with many well-known organisations.
As a trainer John has delivered the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) fundamentals, learning systems and global learning systems courses to numerous companies and managers in the Arabian Gulf Region.
He has also developed and delivered many management courses in areas which include creativity, decision making and negotiation, management style, motivation, personality, teamwork and leadership. In addition, John is an accredited Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Bar-On EQi assessor.

Mitchell Young | General Manager , Logan Basketball Incorporated
Mitch Young is a former professional basketball player now sports business executive. Mitch graduated from US College Saint Mary’s with a bachelor of business followed by playing 6 seasons in the NBL with the Brisbane Bullets, Cairns Taipans and Townsville Crocs. Mitch is currently the General Manager of Logan Basketball Incorporated a non-profit association who hold a management lease to a 4 court indoor sports venue with gym, cafe and rock wall. Mitch was the 2023 Basketball Queensland administrator of the year.
Gayle Wetzel, President, Redcliffe Tigers AFC
Gayle Wetzel has been volunteering for not-for-profit organisations for the past 12 years; starting as President for the local schools P&C, before taking on the role of treasurer, then president at the Redcliffe Tigers AFC for the past 6 years. With a strong passion for helping others, Gayle promotes an inclusive, professional culture, leading from the front and empowering those around her to do the same. Drawing from her skills from running her own business, Gayle has led the Tigers to growing registration numbers in the junior, youth, senior and masters space over the past 5 years, running two locations and 25 teams in a variety of competitions.
Dr Dan van den Hoek, Senior Lecturer in Clinical Exercise Physiology
Dr Dan van den Hoek is a senior lecturer in clinical exercise physiology at UniSC. Dan’s research centres on sports performance analysis and athlete preparations for competition. Dan is the program coordinator for the Bachelor of Sports Studies and is the Co-Lead for The Strength Initiative research collaborative. Dan’s leadership in academia and community engagement have been recognised with receipt of the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Community Engagement (ACU 2019) and being appointed as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2021).
