USC academics who have spent years investigating topics as diverse as food quality, algae, human error, antibiotic resistance and road safety will condense their work into 60-second talks to entertain the audience tomorrow, Thursday 13 July, at USC’s Research Showcase.

Fifteen researchers have registered for the ‘Minute to Win It’ competition from 11am at USC’s Innovation Centre Auditorium. They are only allowed one minute on the clock and one slide on the screen behind them.

Topics include ‘Saving teen drivers by teaching them to drive like a terminator’, ‘What gets left behind my boat wake?’, ‘Saving lives on loose surface roads’, ‘Casanova’s oysters’ and ‘New horizons for professional women’s sport’.

A second quick-fire competition from 10.30am, the ‘Three Minute Thesis’, will feature at least five Higher Degree by Research students explaining their projects in a similar way designed to interest a more general audience.
