USC academic at Fatality Free Friday event

The leader of the Adolescent Risk Research Unit at the University of the Sunshine Coast will provide the latest road safety tips for the public at the Fatality Free Friday event this Friday 27 May.

USC’s Dr Bridie Scott-Parker will be available at the road safety event which will be held at The Shed at Aussie World, Palmview, from 10am to 2pm.

“I will have various resources for parents and young drivers, and I will be available to chat about young driver road safety in particular,” Dr Scott-Parker said.

“Unfortunately in the first four months of this year, 442 people died on Australian roads. This is the same number of Australian athletes anticipated to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and this is only one third of our calendar year.”

“Our goal is to keep road safety at the forefront of people’s minds.”

The annual Fatality Free Friday event, organised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, encourages members of the public to pledge to stay safe on the roads.
It will include free driver training tips and talks with driver instructors.
