This bursary aims to support students in health-related programs undertaking rural and remote placements.

The Helen Hall Rural and Remote Health Placement Bursary will support UniSC health students undertaking a rural and remote clinical placement. The bursary intends to provide support to students with their travel, accommodation and living expenses incurred during their rural and remote placement, and/or to supplement lost income during the unpaid placement period. The student recipients will be undertaking a rural and remote clinical placement preferably in a location with a significant Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander population.

Please refer to the Queensland Health map of rural and remote health facilities to check if your placement facility meets the rural or remote location requirements.

Please Note:  This bursary is offered on a yearly basis through funds provided by an external donor. If funding is not available in any given year, the bursary will not be awarded.

Eligibility

• full-time or part-time undergraduate student
• second or third year student enrolled in a health-related program within the School of Health, including Bachelor of Paramedic Science, Bachelor of Nutrition, Bachelor of Dietetics, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Nursing Science or Bachelor of Midwifery
• undertaking an approved rural and remote clinical placement, as per the criteria established for placements within the School of Health (this may include Bundaberg)
• undertaking placement in a rural and remote location requiring relocation during the placement period
• not in receipt of other dedicated support for rural and remote health-related placements (eg Government scholarships)
• permanent resident of Australia, Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent Australian Humanitarian Visa holder

 

Selection criteria

• financial need
• academic merit
• preference will be given to students undertaking placement in a location with a significant Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander population
