Studying overseas at Norwegian University of Science and Technology

My student exchange at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, during Semester 1 of 2023 has been an incredible adventure. Transitioning from the warmth of sunshine, pristine beaches, and festive BBQs to the enchanting chill of snow, glistening ice, and traditional dried fish, this experience has been utterly unforgettable.

Norway, although renowned for being an expensive destination, has proven to be worth every penny. The stark contrasts in culture and climate between our two magnificent countries have only added to the allure, enticing me to delve deeper into all that Norway has to offer.

From ice baths to snowboarding adventures, dog sledding, and hiking through majestic mountains and alongside breath-taking fjords, the sheer variety of experiences is overwhelming. It's a challenge to fit everything into a single stay, and you'll find yourself yearning to extend your visit.

For those concerned about the language barrier, fear not! Norwegians speak English fluently, often with a proficiency that rivals and sometimes even surpasses that of native English speakers from Australia. Due to our unique slang and faster speech patterns, a word of advice to fellow Australians would be to slow down and articulate your words so that everyone can understand you clearly.

My initial six-month stay has transformed into a fulfilling year-long experience, and I couldn't be more delighted with my decision. The people, landscapes, academics, and culture have enriched my life in ways I never expected.

One of the greatest places on Earth to visit is Lofoten Islands, its sheer beauty will have you captivated with the northern lights in winter or the midnight sun in summer. Regardless of the time you go it is full of activities and adventure. From boating through the fjords, rock climbing up ´the goat´, snow shoeing or skiing, kayaking and even northern lights tours. This destination is on the bucket list for many around the world.

NTNU has many campuses, depending on what field you study will determine the campus you will go to. NTNU is extremely large compared to UniSC, but don´t let that scare you, it is easy to navigate, and the student systems is as easy to use as UniSC's.

If you're considering a student exchange at NTNU, prepare yourself for a captivating journey that will leave you inspired and connected to a place unlike any other. This Norwegian experience has been one for the record books, and I will cherish it for the rest of my life.
