ARC Future Fellowships and NHMRC Investigator Grants

Those holding any of these Fellowships at the University of the Sunshine Coast have ‘group leader’ status and, as such, receive significant research support from the University.

A research support package may be offered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) that is commensurate with the nature of the proposed research, and the international competitiveness of the applicant.

This package may be made up of PhD support, staff support along with funding for minor equipment and maintenance. This will provide significant support to those coming from outside of the University to establish their research group.

All group leaders are provided with an annual research budget, allocated on the basis of a range of research indicators. Assessment of research performance includes consideration of the number of papers published in recent years, the number of citations attracted by these papers, and the value of awarded research grants.

Financial support is provided for each PhD and Honours student that is supervised by the researchers of the University and contributions to the undergraduate teaching curriculum are rewarded with additional research support.

In addition to receiving an annual budget allocation based on research performance, the University will endeavour to transfer ARC or NHMRC Fellows to continuing positions over the duration of their externally funded fellowships.

Together, these mechanisms will deliver significant research support to high-performing ARC or NHMRC Research Fellows.

ARC Fellows and NHMRC Investigator grant holders who do not hold a substantive and continuing appointment may be eligible for consideration of a post-Fellowship appointment either contract or continuing if they meet agreed performance criteria.

ARC DECRA Fellowships and NHMRC Investigator Grants (Emerging Leader Levels)

Those people holding either an ARC DECRA or an NHMRC Investigator Grant (Emerging Leader level) Fellowships at USC will be aligned with one (or several) of the research strengths and will have full access to research infrastructure.

All of those academics holding an ARC DECRA or NHMRC Investigator (Emerging Leader level) Fellowships through USC may receive a salary loading, so that they are paid at an appropriate level.

The cost of the difference of salary level between the University and ARC/NHMRC budgeted amounts will be borne by the University, thus ensuring that 100% of the ARC/NHMRC research support remain at the disposal of the ARC/NHMRC Awardee.

Those who contribute to undergraduate teaching can redeploy savings on ARC/NHMRC salary supported to their research.
