Honorary Doctorate (April 2000)

Lawrence Daws was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in April 2000 in recognition of his sustained and distinguished contribution to the fine arts.

Mr Daws is one of Australia's most highly regarded artists, and has lived on the Sunshine Coast since 1970. He has exhibited his works in Australia as well as in Rome, London, Paris, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Sao Paulo and Nairobi. He is an appointed member of the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustees. He has a large mural in the Performing Arts Complex in Brisbane and his work is represented in collections throughout the world including the Tate Gallery, the Royal Society and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Beaux-Arts de l'Ontario, Canada, the Australian National Gallery and all State Art Galleries, the Art Gallery of China in Beijing and also in Parliament House. His paintings on Australian landscapes and his more abstract works place him amongst Australia's greatest living artists.
