Wireless on campus

WIFI networks

The University has several wireless (WIFI) networks.

USC students and staff generally use the University's eduroam network to access the internet, USC Central, Canvas and email.

What this means for you

For staff and students of USC when on the USC Campus (at Sippy Downs, SCHI, Fraser Coast, Gympie or the Noosa J) or when visiting other member institutions, this will allow you to connect to the wireless eduroam network using your USC credentials.

Visiting students and staff from other participating universities can connect to the wireless eduroam network provided on the USC campus using your home institution's credentials. For details of this service and to see a list of member institutions visit eduroam

eduroam WIFI

  • supports Mac, Windows and mobile device operating systems
  • is available in all buildings at Sippy Downs, SCHI, Fraser Coast, Gympie Campus (also Gympie TAFE library and canteen) and Noosa
  • is also available at most universities within Australia and many others around the world. Therefore students and staff can connect their laptop or mobile device to wifi at any university in the eduroam network using USC credentials (email address and password).
Connecting to Eduroam

To connect to the eduroam wireless network you will require a wireless capable laptop or mobile device.

When connecting to the eduroam wireless network it is very important to include both your home institution’s username as well as your home domain, eg tsmith@institution.edu.au (plus your current password) in order to login.

For USC Staff and Students this will be your email address, eg username@student.usc.edu.au if you are a student and username@usc.edu.au if you are a staff member.

The USC WIFI network provides staff and students using eligible USC owned devices access to the same services that are available via the wired network.

Staff can find more information in the Connecting to Wifi section of the Getting connected to USC's IT systems page on MyUSC.

Visitors can arrange to access the USC Guest WiFi network by contacting the IT Services Desk prior to their arrival.

Conditions of use

The use of WIFI networks is governed by the University of Sunshine Coast’s Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources - Governing Policy.

The use of eduroam is also governed by the Australian Eduroam Policy. Visitors are also required to adhere to their home institution's acceptable use policies (where applicable).

Authentication and activity may be logged and monitored for statistical purposes or possible network abuse.
