Seer and Seen: Alex Ashton

Seer and Seen: Alex Ashton presents the creative outcomes of a three year Doctor of Creative Arts undertaken by the artist at USC.

Ashton’s research explores questions including ‘why do I draw?’ and ‘how do I draw?’ prompted by the artist’s long term pre-occupation with how landscape is experienced through the act of drawing.

The exhibition includes small scale landscape drawings made in-situ at sites across Europe and Australia alongside their large format counterparts made in the studio. Video and photographic documentation and text examine how the artist shifts between these spaces, and the transformation that occurs when the artists’ memory and experience of the landscape is evoked through this process of re-drawing in studio.
