Genetics, Genomics and Bioinformatics

Studying genes and genomes to decode DNA secrets.

Genetics, genomics (omics), bioinformatics, biotechnology and molecular engineering serve as foundational pillars for the study of various biological, chemical, and biomedical disciplines.

Beyond their fundamental role, they play a crucial part in addressing pressing global challenges, including disease pandemics, climate change, and food security. These fields extend their influence across a wide spectrum of disciplines, spanning from the natural to the social sciences: education, psychology, and behavioural sciences.

This cluster seeks to foster stronger collaborations with other academic disciplines within UniSC, and with national and international institutions. This includes the potential to jointly design and execute research and teaching programs in these important fields. The establishment of this cluster is driven by research strengths and significant contributions that have positively impacted the national and international ranking of UniSC.

Food security is a growing concern world-wide. It means that every person has access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs. Food security is a fundamental human right, and it is essential for promoting health, well-being, and economic development.
Cluster lead: Dr Nguyen Nguyen

Our aim

To execute research and teaching programs in the fields of genetics, genomics (omics), bioinformatics, biotechnology and molecular engineering.
