Jim Varghese AM was named an Honorary Senior Fellow in October 2014 in recognition of his distinguished and significant contribution to public administration and outstanding contribution to social and community issues.

Jim Varghese AM has a distinguished record in public administration spanning more than 30 years in multi-national government agencies. He has held successive Director-General roles with the Queensland State Government. As Director-General of Education, Jim Varghese was at the forefront of promoting and implementing public and private partnerships in education and training in Queensland. He was particularly influential in decisions that had a long term impact on the region and the University. Jim is the creator of the award winning “Three Learning Frames” management approach. He is well-known for strategic management and calmness under pressure in handling real time crises. Jim is a recipient of many awards including the Order of Australia. Jim Varghese also successfully transitioned to the private sector where as the Chief Executive Officer of the Springfield Land Corporation he played a key role in developing innovation and enterprise in education and health in the master planned city of Springfield in the western corridor of south east Queensland. Jim Varghese initiated actions that led to the creation of the Chancellor State College adjacent to the University. The synergies between the institutions are obvious and beneficial. He has been a strong supporter of the University and helped enhance the visibility of USC at an important initial stage of its development.
