Dr Flemming obtained her PhD from the University of Queensland in 2021, and joined the University of the Sunshine Coast's School of Health as a Lecturer in Biomedical Science in 2024. In addition to teaching undergraduate physiology and pathophysiology, Dr Flemming undertakes medical research at the Sunshine Coast Health Institute. She currently serves on the Postgraduate Education Working Committee, SCHI Laboratory Operations Group, and is a reviewer for Frontiers in Physiology.

Prior to her appointment at the University of the Sunshine Coast, she worked as a Lecturer in Medical Education in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Griffith University, where she taught and convened post-graduate courses in the Doctor of Medicine program.

Teaching areas

Dr Flemming's specialist areas of knowledge include kidney physiology, diabetes, mitochondrial dysfunction, and healthy aging. In particular, she studies the role of cellular energetics and cellular injury using metabolic and biochemical assays, to understand the underlying pathophysiology of disease.
