Reconnect with your study goals after the break
24 Sep 2021
Welcome back! Hopefully, you’re feeling refreshed and ready to get back to class and focus on your final assessments. You're so close to the end of the semester so it’s the perfect time to look at your study plan and goals, and get the results you want!
Here are some tips to get you through the final weeks:
1. Be SMART
When considering your study goals, make them SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-framed. This allows you to identify what readings or research you need to do and when rather than making generalised “I’ll study harder” goals. For example, “On Tuesday morning I will read through the course readings in preparation for my tutorial”. Achieving small goals turn can into big achievements over time.
2. Review your study plan and check your calendar for important dates
It's hard to plan your week if you're unsure what how much time each activity is going to take. Make sure you allocate time for each task and understand what is expected from the task description sheet and rubric. You can use a weekly study planner to help.
3. Have you used the assignment calculator?
This is another easy tool to help you plan and keep on track, especially for those who struggle with time management (many of us do). Simply add your assessment start and due date into the assignment calculator and it will work out what you need to do and when.
4. Don’t try and do too much!
Make sure you keep space in your calendar for relaxation time, whether that's yoga or surfing, or yoga while surfing. Check out Balancing your Studies for further advice and tips.
5. Concerned about your assessment?
Don't put off asking for help when it comes to assignments. Sometimes just asking a few questions and getting another person's perspective will help you overcome challenges and even writer's block! Where can you do this? Come have a casual chat at drop-in sessions, make an appointment with a Learning Adviser on Student Hub, or use Studiosity for feedback.
