I am currently working on two research projects associated with oyster reproduction and parasite infection.

The first research project is focused on the development and application of biotechnology in the Sydney rock oyster (SRO) aquaculture. This research is focused on the identification of key neurohormones that can be used to manipulate gonad maturation and spawning.

The second research project investigates olfactory communication within a parasite-host system. The parasite (a flatworm) causes schistosomiasis (also known as bilharzia).

Both research projects essentially required the art of extensive molecular and proteomic investigation, linked with behaviour analysis – which is really exciting and challenging.

Potential research projects for HDR and honours students

  • Molecular communication in oysters and other marine invertebrates
  • Regeneration in Echinoderms

Research areas

  • Invertebrate neuropeptides
  • Oyster aquaculture
