Kathryn Wenham

Dr Kathryn Wenham's research interests are in cross-cultural health promotion, gender and intimate partner violence, trauma, and sexual health. She has a strong interest in issues of social justice, equity, and human rights, and how these intersect with health. She conducted her PhD research with African immigrant communities in Chicago, investigating factors that impact on health, wellbeing, and intimate partner violence. She has worked on several cross-cultural health promotion projects, including a community food garden for refugees, health resources for new arrivals, and sexual health promotion for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Dr Wenham's teaching experience in public health include teaching into courses in health promotion, health and human rights, and epidemiology. She has extensive experience teaching in the work integrated learning context, in which she developed a strong interest in how teaching staff can better support students who are experiencing life challenges.

Earlier qualifications in anthropology and occupational therapy have shaped Dr Wenham's work in cross cultural contexts and understanding the systems and environments that shape people and their health.
