Darren Obah

Boxing (January 2004)

Darren was without doubt the Iron man of Australian boxing. After a stunning amateur career, which led him to a record eight Australian championships, the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, he turned professional in March 1993.

In typical Aussie battler style he went from state champion, to being the number one contender for the WBA World Middleweight title, fighting for the interim championship at the home of boxing, Madison Square Garden in New York in 1999. Obah’s ring name was “The Body Snatcher” with many of his 12 knock out wins coming from devastating body shots.
