MEET OUR SPORTING REPRESENTATIVES
We are so proud of our six athletes who will be competing in Tokyo between 21 July to 8 August. They include current students, recent graduates and members of USC's High Performance sporting teams. Most have been or currently are members of the University's High Performance Student Athlete program.
Swimmer competing in 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 200m individual medley from 25-31 July. Member of USC Spartans Swimming Club.
2021 – Set new world record for 100m backstroke with a time of 57.45 at the Australian Swimming Trials, as well as winning gold in the 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley. Set three national records at the Sydney Open in the 200m, 100m and 50m backstroke.
2019 – Won silver in the 200m backstroke at the FINA World Championships in South Korea. At the same event, she won silver in the Women's 4 x 100m medley relay (as a heat swimmer), placed equal 4th in the 50m backstroke and 5th in the 100m backstroke.
2018 – Placed 4th in both the 100m and 200m backstroke at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Placed 5th in both the 100m and 200m backstroke at the Pan Pacific Championships in Japan.
2017 – Placed 4th in the 200m backstroke at the FINA World Championships in Hungary to set a junior world record.
Swimmer competing in the 200m freestyle relay on 28-29 July. USC graduate, Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science (2021), and former member of USC Spartans Swimming Club.
2019 – Won gold in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay (as a heat swimmer) at the FINA World Championships in South Korea.
2018 – Won gold in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay and placed 6th in the 200m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
2017 – Won bronze in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay at the FINA World Championships in Hungary.
2016 – Won silver in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay at the Rio Games in 2016.
Marathon swimmer competing in the 10km open water event on Wednesday 4 August. USC graduate, Bachelor of Primary Education (2018).
2019 – Qualified for Tokyo by finishing 7th at the 2019 FINA World Swimming Championships 10km marathon swim in South Korea; Placed 5th in the 5km team relay at the same event; Won silver in the 10km swim at the FINA Marathon World Series event in Qatar; finished 6th in the FINA Marathon World Series event in Seychelles.
2018 – Won silver in the 10km swim at the Pan Pacific Championships in Japan; Won bronze in the 10km swim at the FINA Open Water World Cup event in Portugal; Finished 5th in the 10km swim at the FINA Open Water World Cup event in Hungary.
Track cyclist competing in the team pursuit on 2-3 August and possibly the Madison on Friday 6 August. Member of Pro Racing Sunshine Coast, which is based at USC
2020 – Finished fifth in the team pursuit event and 10th in the individual pursuit event at the World Championships in Berlin; Won silver in the Madison at the Australian National Championships.
2019 – Won three gold medals at the Australian National Championships in the team pursuit, individual pursuit and Madison events.
2018 – Won gold in the team pursuit event at the Australian National Championships.
Softballer competing in the softball tournament from 21-27 July. USC student, Master of Teaching (Secondary).
2020 – Achieved her 500th strikeout in the Japanese Women’s Softball League, where she currently plays professionally.
2019 – Pitched for the Australian team at WBSC Asia/Oceania Olympic qualifying event in China. Australia was undefeated at this event.
2017 – Named Player of the Grand Final in the Australian national championship.
Previously played professionally in Hawaii.
WILLIAM (BILL) Thorley
Marathon swimmer competing for Hong Kong in the 10km open water event on Thursday 5 August. USC student, Bachelor of Computer Science.
2019 – Qualified for Tokyo at 2019 FINA World Swimming Championships 10km marathon swim in South Korea; Competed in two FINA Marathon Swimming World Series events in Taiwan and China, finishing 11th of 21 (in 1:58:43), and 22nd of 24 (in 1:58:25) respectively.
2018 – Competed in two FINA Marathon Swimming World Series events in China and United Arab Emerites, finishing 22nd of 42 (in 2:00:02), and 56th of 83 in 1:58:39) respectively.
2017 – Won the 10km Clean Half Marathon Swim in Hong Kong; finished 3rd in the 10km Burleigh to Surfers race in Queensland; and finished 3rd in the 15km Bali Ocean Swim in Indonesia.
