The process for applying and getting into uni is the same for most people.
This includes current Year 12 students, and people who’ve been out of school for a while.
Most domestic prospective students applying for an undergraduate program apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).
Domestic students are Australian and New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents and Australian humanitarian visa holders.

QTAC assesses domestic undergraduate applications on USC’s behalf. To be eligible to receive an offer from QTAC, you must meet the entry requirements for your chosen program.
- be at least 17 years of age, or have completed Year 12 or equivalent
- meet the minimum English language requirements for your program (if English is not your first language)
- have completed any subject prerequisites for your program
- be eligible for an OP or selection rank equal to or above the minimum selection threshold for your program
Minimum selection threshold
The minimum selection threshold is the minimum OP or selection rank required in order to be considered for entry to a program. Each year, USC determines minimum selection thresholds based on the number of places available in a program, the number of applicants who apply for those places, and the standard of applicants.
Thresholds can vary from semester to semester and offer round to offer round. Last semester's threshold can only be used as a guide.
To receive an offer, you must be eligible for an OP or selection rank equal to or above the minimum selection threshold for your program in the offer round you are applying for.
For more detailed information OPs, selection ranks and how applications are assessed, visit Admissions explained.
If you don’t have an OP, QTAC may be able to calculate your selection rank based on your Year 12 results, previous non-school study (for example, at TAFE or another university), or relevant work experience.
If you don’t have qualifications or experience that will give you a selection rank, you can complete a bridging/enabling course like USC’s Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP).
You may be eligible for adjustment factors that could increase your chance of receiving an offer through the Access USC scheme.
Additional entry requirements
Some programs have additional entry requirements. Check your chosen program’s webpage for more information.
