OVERVIEW
Beautiful Lake Birrabeen with its crystal clear water is one of the largest perched lakes on K'gari.
Lake Birrabeen is considered remarkable for the clarity of its water and is one of only a few 'white water' lakes onthe island.
Its waters have been filtered through sands that have removed coloured organic compounds.
Surrounded by pure white sand, it rivals the beauty of another of the Island's famous white lakes, Lake McKenzie (Boorangoora).
Paperbark trees and sedges(grass-like plants) line the water's edge and impressive Blackbutt trees grow on the higher slopes around the lake.
The area has toilet facilities and an unfenced picnic area.
Swimming or diving is not recommended as the lakes can have hidden obstacles such as submerged logs and branches. There are no lifeguards on the Island.
