Business graduate finds niche with eco company

Georgia Gywn is passionate about toxin-free and eco-conscious products, so her first job after graduation was the perfect fit.

The 21-year-old from Beachmere in Moreton Bay has landed work with Go For Zero (formerly Shop Natural Australia), a supplier of sustainable products that meet strict toxin-free criteria.

She says her Bachelor of Business, majoring in Marketing and minoring in Event Management, has helped her enormously in the role.

“Day by day we are building strategies and systems and figuring out what our customers respond to the best,” Georgia said.

“It’s challenging but I love using my creative skills and coming up with solutions to solve hurdles we’re faced with.

“I’m passionate about toxin-free and eco-conscious products so being able to embrace my creativity through everyday tasks and channel it towards something I am passionate about is a win-win for me.

“My focus involves marketing activities such as social media management, planning sales promotions, blog writing, designing graphics, email marketing, researching and communicating with influencers and new product development.”

Georgia says she is now able to define target markets, understand consumer behaviour, interpret data and develop solutions to make a business become more efficient and effective.

“Since we are a start-up with a small team, I tend to work across multiple roles so having knowledge in event management, human resources and accounting has also helped,” she said.

Georgia, who previously attended St Columban’s College in Caboolture and now lives at Caloundra, said she chose to study at USC because it suited her lifestyle and offered her degree of choice.

“I love the fact that USC embraces the environment and has a laid-back coastal vibe,” Georgia said.

“USC has so many sustainable practices in place and they’ve designed the campus so you can connect with nature on your way to class.”

Applications are open to study at USC, starting Semester 2 and at USC’s new Moreton Bay campus in 2020. Details on how to apply can be found at www.usc.edu.au/learn
