The USC Foundation Board’s formation of a philanthropic club called the USC 1996 Society has already resulted in pledges totalling almost $100,000 to support the future growth of the University.

The pledges have boosted the new USC Visionary Fund, a perpetual investment account where the principal is held and the interest is distributed for critical projects.

The society’s name recognises the visionaries who worked hard to create the University which opened in 1996.

The Foundation Board is a group of volunteers working with USC’s Development Office to build relationships with the community and advise on USC fundraising initiatives. Its patrons are Tim Fairfax AM and Chancellor John Dobson OAM.

Foundation Board Deputy Chair Karen Neuendorf said, “It took great vision for the founders to imagine and create the USC we know today. Those joining the 1996 Society will prove themselves as future visionaries who will build a legacy and create an even brighter USC for generations to come.”

USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill said philanthropy was increasingly important to the University and the 1996 Society would have a wonderful impact on the experiences of future students.

“A few examples of how philanthropy has helped USC are our Art Gallery, Health and Sports Centre and Thompson Institute, as well as bursaries for our students,” said Professor Hill. “In turn, this has helped USC build the capacity and economy of the Sunshine Coast region.

“The USC 1996 Society will help fulfil our aim of becoming a world-class institution.”
