USC to stage two graduation ceremonies

Graduates continue to be pleased with the educational experience they have at USC

1 October 2014

The University of the Sunshine Coast will stage two graduation ceremonies on Thursday 2 October at 11am and 5pm, with crowds totalling 1,400 people expected to attend.

Almost 260 people will cross the stage to receive awards at these celebrations, the University’s fifth and sixth graduation ceremonies for this year following four larger events in April.

The ceremonies will feature plenty of pomp and ceremony, including academic processions at 10.55am and 4.55pm respectively, medals for high-achieving students and staff, and the presentation of three honorary awards.

USC’s Chancellor John Dobson OAM will confer more than 470 degrees and certificates on graduands, while graduation addresses will be presented by former Queensland Government Director-General Jim Varghese AM in the morning and Australia’s Chief Scientist Professor Ian Chubb AC in the evening.

The University will award an Honorary Doctorate to Professor Chubb, as well as Honorary Senior Fellowships to Mr Varghese and former Noosa Shire and Sunshine Coast council town planner Raul Weychardt.

The 11am ceremony for Faculty of Arts and Business graduands and the 5pm ceremony for Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering graduands will be video-streamed live on the USC website.
