Exclusive screening of ‘Surviving Earth’ at USC

Climate change and environmental science will be the focus of a free exclusive movie screening, networking session and information night at USC on Friday 7 November from 5-9pm.

The new Australian documentary Surviving Earth – about resource limits, population, human consumption and environmental health – will be introduced by pre-eminent scientist and former Australian Conservation Foundation president Emeritus Professor Ian Lowe.

“The decisions we are making now about population growth, transport systems and energy use will determine whether our children have a comfortable life,” he said.

The film features Professor Lowe, Climate Council Leader Professor Tim Flannery, former Shell executive turned environmentalist Ian Dunlop, former mining company geologist Dr Simon Michaux, Uncle Bob Randall and others speaking about humanity’s impact on the environment and what changes need to occur for civilisation to survive.

Bindi Irwin also features in the film, speaking on behalf of today’s youth who want action on climate change now.

The event at USC will start at 5pm with a networking hour, during which visitors can chat with scientists, community groups and local businesses with an interest in environmental sustainability.

The film begins at 6pm, followed by a Q&A session at 7.30pm with an expert panel including Professor Lowe, Dr Michaux and USC academics Associate Professor Neil Tindale and Dr Richard White.

The event will be held in Lecture Theatre 1 (Building K).
