USC promotes a culture that is free from sexual violence

Respect. Now. Always is an initiative launched by Universities Australia to ensure that university campuses are places of safety and respect for all students and staff. The Respect. Now. Always campaign is about raising awareness in the university community that sexual assault and sexual harassment are completely unacceptable.

As part of the campaign, USC students were randomly selected to take part in an anonymous national survey run by the Australian Human Rights Commission with assistance from Roy Morgan Research.

The survey responses provide important information about the prevalence of these behaviours to guide improvements in policies and support services, and help keep students safe on university campuses. To learn more about the campaign nationally, visit the Universities Australia website.

The survey results were released on August 1, 2017, and can be downloaded below. USC has developed a response plan to serve as a governance framework for responding to matters related specifically to sexual harassment and assault.

Australian Universities have worked collaboratively with the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) and Universities Australia over the last 18 months to address concerns raised about sexual harassment and assault to University students. The AHRC conducted a national survey last year with all Australian universities participating including USC. The data from this survey was released by the AHRC on 1 August, 2017 and the national results can be viewed at Australian Human Rights Commission website. USC supports the independence of this survey and transparency of this information which measures the experiences of over 30,000 students across Australian universities.
