Professor Birgit Lohmann

Emeritus Professor (April 2018)

Professor Birgit Lohmann was named an Emeritus Professor in April 2018 in recognition of her services to USC in the position of Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Lohmann commenced at USC in 2011 as Deputy Vice Chancellor and attained the position of Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor in 2016. During her time at USC, Professor Lohmann was committed to the University and its students and provided a sustained and distinguished service. In addition to her broad responsibility for academic activities, until her retirement in early 2018 Professor Lohmann served as standing deputy to the Vice-Chancellor and President, and as Chair of USC’s Academic Board.

Prior to joining USC, Professor Lohmann served in a number of leadership roles including Head of School of Science and Director of the Centre for Quantum Dynamics at Griffith University and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Quality) at the University of Adelaide.

Professor Lohmann is an internationally known researcher in atomic and molecular physics, and has been a node manager within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Antimatter-Matter Studies since 2005. She has produced over 100 journal and conference contributions, and has served as both a chair and member of the scientific committees of many international conferences.
