Ken Hinds

Honorary Senior Fellow (April 2009)

Ken Hinds was named an Honorary Senior Fellow in April 2009 in recognition of his major contribution to the arts on the Sunshine Coast.

Ken Hinds (-2018) made a significant and sustained contribution to the Sunshine Coast, especially with respect to the visual arts. He had broad involvement with boxing, chorale and theatre, volunteering hundreds of hours as adviser, committee and board member, and patron. He also was significantly involved with Caloundra Regional Art Gallery. It is there that he exhibited part of his private collection, whilst also facilitating national touring exhibitions of his own collected works. Across his lifetime, Ken was a voracious collector of art and objects – paintings, prints, ceramics, toys, tribal artefacts, books, films and more – a collection that records and celebrates Australian historical and popular culture. He also was responsible for the first art exhibition we ever had at this University when we opened in 1996. Ken worked tirelessly on how this lifetime legacy of collection could benefit the Sunshine Coast across the long-term, and developed a private art gallery at Mount Mellum with this future in mind.
