University Vacation Employment Program - Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development (Canberra)

The Department runs a University Vacation Employment Program (UVEP) in Canberra over the summer months for university students designed to provide an opportunity to gain work experience in the Australian Public Service. Trainees will gain valuable, on the job experience, and the opportunity to develop networking skills, contacts and social skills. The length of the program is dependent on the student's availability, but usually runs for around 8 – 12 weeks.

Some key features of this program are:

  • a paid internship opportunity at $50,449 per annum (pro rata),
  • a 12-week placement in an area of their interest (where possible), and
  • training on How to Apply for Graduate Jobs, including a mock Assessment Centre.

2020 NSW Government Graduate Program - Legal - Public Service Commission (PSC) (NSW Sydney) (new!)

The Aurora Internship Program offers paid placements for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and graduates to undertake internships with Indigenous organisations and other organisations working in the Indigenous sector.

The Aurora Internship Program offers a compelling opportunity to bring your university studies to life. We arrange 4-6 week long internships Australia-wide with Indigenous sector organisations involved in native title, justice, policy, community development, social welfare and research. Interns gain valuable work experience and a foot in the door to further opportunities, all the while bringing vital capacity benefits to strengthen under-resourced Indigenous sector organisations.

The Program arranges placements for students and graduates with backgrounds in law, social sciences (anthropology, archaeology, community development, cultural heritage, environmental management, education, history, human geography, Indigenous studies, media/communications and sociology) as well as health science and social welfare (including social work and psychology). There are also a handful of opportunities available to candidates with film, music and creative arts, as well as STEM related fields.

2020 ABCB Cadetship - Department of Industry Innovation and Science (DIIS) - Federal (Australia/NSW)

What you will do

Cadets will undertake two 6 month rotations in the ABCB technical teams. During this time, you will work with ABCB Managers on a range of issues relating to the development of the NCC, which may include:

  • researching technical and policy issues relevant to the building and plumbing industries
  • examining the benefits and costs associated with proposed changes to the NCC
  • assisting in the review and assessment of NCC referenced documents including Australian Standards and documents proposed for referencing in the NCC.
