Emergency external threat procedure

For all campus emergencies call 5430 1168 or Ext 1168.

If required, DIAL 000 for Emergency Service.

External emergency action
  1. Assess the situation and contact SafeUSC (Ext 1168).
  2. Follow instructions given by SafeUSC personnel.
  3. Follow the standard procedures for that type of emergency.
Storm
  1. Remain in the building and keep well clear of windows.
  2. In multi-story buildings, move to the lower floors.
  3. In all buildings, shelter under desks or similar structures that offer protection.
  4. Turn off or limit the use of mobile phones and encourage others to do the same.
  5. Follow the instructions of relevant, SafeUSC and Emergency Services personnel to evacuate the building to nominated evacuation assembly area, if required, and assist with the evacuation of disabled occupants.
  6. Do not leave the evacuation assembly area until advised to do so.
Earthquake
  1. Remain in the building, keep well clear of windows.
  2. In multi-storey buildings, move to the lower floors.

  4. Follow the instructions of SafeUSC or Emergency Services personnel.
  5. Turn off mobile telephones and encourage others to do the same.
  6. Follow the instructions of, SafeUSC and Emergency Services personnel to evacuate the building to the nominated evacuation assembly area, if required, and assist with the evacuation of disabled occupants.
  7. Do not leave the evacuation assembly area until advised to do so.
Flood
  1. Remain in the building and keep well clear of building access points.
  2. Follow the instructions of SafeUSC and Emergency Services personnel.
  3. Switch off any electrical equipment and gas that could be affected by water.
  4. Move any chemicals, documents, equipment and valuables to a safe area if time permits.
  5. Follow the instructions of SafeUSC and Emergency Services personnel to evacuate the building to nominated evacuation assembly area, if required and assist with the evacuation of disabled occupants.
Car or bush fire
  1. Close all windows and external doors.
  2. Remain indoors, or move indoors and await further instructions from SafeUSC or Emergency Services personnel.
  3. Do not evacuate from the campus or drive vehicles until or unless directed to do so by SafeUSC or Emergency Services personnel.
