Language short course teachers



Wenting Ouyang completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in China and obtained a Master of Teaching at La Trobe University in 2009. She has extensive experience in teaching and designing curricula that suits diverse student levels and backgrounds. As a native Chinese Mandarin speaker, Wenting also enjoys creative Mandarin teaching and bringing the richness of Chinese culture into the classroom.


Lee-anne Gordon has over 15 years’ experience as a French Teacher in both Australia and the UK.

She is qualified with a four-year French Honours Degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education Secondary French with distinction. She is an avid learner herself and regularly attends professional development and network meetings to ensure her language teaching pedagogy is fresh and innovative. Having lived and studied in France, she has a passion for all things French and currently teaches in a prominent school on the Sunshine Coast.

Geraldine Petitt has over 20 years experience as a French Teacher in both Australia and the UK. She is qualified with a 4-year Honours Degree in French and Psychology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary Languages) from Oxford University. Geraldine has lived and worked in France, Japan and Mexico, and as Head of French in a well-reputed school on the Sunshine Coast regularly leads school trips to Paris and Nouméa. She loves teaching French from beginner to advanced level, using a lively and engaging pedagogy that enables her learners to communicate in French from the very first lesson and rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the language.


Laura Mason-Baierl is a native Italian speaker and an experienced teacher with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from USC. She grew up in the Italian canton of Switzerland and is passionate about learning and languages. To pursue these passions, Laura completed her tertiary studies firstly in French, with a Master of Economics and Social Science from the Swiss University of Fribourg and then with a Master of Commerce at the University of NSW in Sydney. She is now an Australian citizen and has been teaching Italian to adults and children for many years.


Michiko Matsumoto completed a Bachelor degree majoring in Japanese history and culture, and Japanese language teaching before moving to Australia. She is qualified with a Graduate Diploma and Master’s in education from QUT.


Veronica Salu Micozzi is a native Spanish speaker, born in Argentina. She has taught for 6 years in the Cambridge International Examinations program (CIE) and is currently the Spanish International Baccalaureate (IB) teacher at Mountain Creek State High School on the Sunshine Coast. She has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Quilmes- BsAs Argentina, a Bachelor of Education from the Otago University of Dunedin, N.Z. and a Master of Educational Technology from the Metropolitan University in Chile. Veronica's philosophy of teaching is that every student is unique in ability, learning needs, personality, interests, and cultural background. Therefore, an acceptance of diversity and a variety of teaching styles and methods is essential to cater for learners' varying needs and capabilities. She considers herself an innovative and creative teacher with a passion for new technologies and foreign languages, who is always looking for new resources and tools that can improve and enhance the student and teacher learning experience.

Adriana Lidden is a native Portuguese speaker from Brazil who has been teaching languages for over 10 years including English as a Second Language, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Adriana has a Postgraduate degree in Education from USC and a Bachelor of Communications from the University of Tennessee, USA. Adriana is currently teaching French using the AIM Methodology (Accelerated Integrated Method), she has a passion for languages and is always looking for ideas to improve the quality and engagement of her language lessons in a fun and dynamic approach. Adriana believes that the cultural content of learning is as important as the linguistic content of foreign language learning. Adriana has been living in Australia for 25 years.


Elizabeth Blair (BA Dip Ed) has been involved in languages education for over 35 years. She has worked in a broad range of environments: teaching German from Prep to Year 12 as well as some French; co-ordinating the introduction of languages into primary schools in Central Queensland; organising language camps and school tours for students and implementing remote language learning programs using computer/phone links. Elizabeth travels to Germany regularly to keep her linguistic and cultural knowledge current, but having learned German at school and university in Queensland, understands the challenges of mastering a second language in Australia. She has organised the Sunshine Coast Speech Competition for the last 8 years since its inception and is a member of the Goethe-lnstitut sponsored Multiplikatoren group, which provides professional development to other German teachers. Elizabeth has a passion for languages and cultures and believes anyone can learn one regardless of age.


Colleen Kelly holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics and Japan Studies, and an Education Degree in Languages (Japanese and Indonesian). She has taught languages in secondary schools across Queensland. Colleen has written and taught Senior and Senior Extension Indonesian language programs and co-ordinated Indonesian immersion camps for the Modern Language Teachers’ Association of Queensland. Colleen has also tutored language curriculum studies in the Faculty of Education at QUT. She is currently teaching full-time as a Humanities, Language and STLaN teacher at Bribie Island State High School.
