My journey: After initially going to University straight after school, I decided that the degree I was studying wasn’t for me and subsequently took on a promotion at work. Over the last 13 years, I have worked in various retail management roles, however I never felt that it was ‘where my heart was’. After much soul searching and career exploration, I found that my passion was around the environment. With a restructure at work I knew that the time was right to chase my dreams, and after researching study options and universities, I found that USC ticked all the boxes for me. The biggest fear for me was self-doubt and learning how to learn again after such a long break! I have found the team at USC to be so supportive and as such my fears have been alleviated. Everyone on campus is so approachable and with numerous extra-curricular groups, activities and drop-ins, there is always somebody available to answer your questions and provide support.
Career aspirations: I hope to find work where I can help educate the public around environmental protection and conservation. My particular interest is around marine environments so I would love to pursue a career as a Marine Parks Officer.
Why did you become an Ambassador? I became an Ambassador as I saw it as an opportunity to help others overcome the same struggles that I did before starting my University journey. I would love to be able to inspire people to chase their own academic and career dreams to achieve brighter futures. A saying that has really resonated with me starting my journey is that ‘you have to make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change’.
What do you like about USC? I love the inclusiveness and diversity that exists on campus. There is an easily apparent culture of friendliness and approachability on campus, whether it be between students or teachers or students and teachers. I love that there are so many support options available, from academic support through to health and wellbeing support, which you learn about from day 1 so you know where to go to ask for help.
