Parent Persona Quiz

<p>Take this quiz to help you understand your parenting style when it comes to supporting your child's tertiary study plans. You'll also get some tips for helping them on their journey post-high school.<br /><br /><br />The information provided in the Parent Persona quiz is based on research found in the <em>Social Marketing Strategy for Widening Tertiary Education Participation in Low SES Communities field report.</em></p> <h2><strong>Emu – Help me develop my child as a person</strong></h2> <p>You are supportive and loving and only want the best for your child. You have a very balanced parenting style in which you are supportive of choices but also provide healthy limits. Emu parents have a balanced approach to choices and a relaxed approach to parenting. </p> <p>You are motivated by the desire for your child to succeed in life and be happy, and you recognise that education is an important factor in gaining this happiness.</p> <p>You have a strong focus on building independence and coping strategies with your child and you’re willing to guide, support and develop your child both academically and as a person.</p> <p>You believe that tertiary education provides more than a qualification, and you desire post-school study to be a full experience including social and extra-curricular activities. Whilst encouraging independence, work with your child to make choices about applying for tertiary education. Attend Open Days and information evenings with your child so you can get a feel for the campus and explore what social and extra-curricular activities are available.</p> <h2><strong>Magpie – Help me direct my child</strong></h2> <p>You are a devoted and loving parent and only want the best for your child. </p> <p>You believe strongly in tertiary education and that children need guidance and structure to succeed. You are confident in helping your child make decisions about study and you have a strong view that education is critical for success in life. You know your child best and what suits their learning style, so you support and guide their choices. </p> <p>You are proactive in your child’s education and choices and you’re willing to do whatever is needed to ensure your child is able to continue on to tertiary education. When looking at tertiary options, check for ways in which you can engage with the institutions to make sure you have all the information you need to help your child make the best decisions.</p> <p><strong>Possum - Help me feel confident</strong></p> <p>You are protective and loving and only want the best for your child, but you’re not always sure how to help. You are supportive and confident in your child’s ability to study; however, you would like to boost your own ability to provide career advice and are a little unsure about tertiary education institutions and culture. </p> <p>You believe that success needs life experience more than tertiary education and you consider that while children should drive the decisions around study and career choice, they still need protecting. </p> <p>You are very concerned about what post-school study involves for your child and whether your child will become distanced (physically and emotionally) from the family. You may not have attended university yourself, or you're unsure of what to expect and if it's the right fit for your child. You feel that your child still needs protection, and this can make you nervous about tertiary education.</p> <h2 style="text-align: left;"><strong>Penguin – Help me support my child’s choice</strong></h2> <p>You are caring and loving and only want the best for your child. You are very nurturing and supportive. You believe that children should be free to make their own choices and you will support them in whatever they do. </p> <p>You prefer your child to be independent. You believe they know best and can make their own decisions in <a>life.</a></p> <p>You encourage your child to continue to study after high school and you encourage them to seek a little guidance, especially when it comes to decisions about tertiary education. </p> <p>You like to leverage a wealth of information to support your child in their decision making, and you look to school and tertiary institutions to provide guidance about study and careers.
