Reeds Talking, Mountains Walking: Lin Martin

Reeds Talking, Mountains Walking traces a journey of spiritual discovery by Sunshine Coast artist Lin Martin.
Lin combines a scientific background with an artist’s eye and writer’s ability to present her thoughts, stories and intimate knowledge of the landscape in this thought-provoking exhibition of photography and artists books.

A Focus on the Invisible: Mervyn Jefferson
22 July–21 August
This exhibition presents a series of new paintings by longtime Sunshine Coast resident and art teacher Mervyn Jefferson.
His colourful and atmospheric paintings are inspired by the effects of the weather on surfaces that are both man-made and organic.
He observes and records in the way rain stains cement or the patina of rusting metal or how a heavy chain’s abrasive action wears away the paint on the side of a truck.
His work is beautiful and surprising as he presents a different way of looking at the actions of nature.

Creative Generation: Excellence Awards in Visual Art and Design – Regional exhibition 2010

The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art and Design recognises and promotes excellence in senior visual arts education throughout Queensland’s state and non-state schools.
This program has been conducted annually since 1990 and has helped raise community awareness about the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of arts education in Queensland secondary schools. 
This exhibition presents the artwork of senior high school art students from the Sunshine Coast Region.
The exhibition is presented in association with the Queensland Government, 
Department of Education and Training.

12 Degrees of Latitude—Regional Gallery and University Art Collections

A Touring exhibition from Museums and Gallery Services Queensland and held in association with the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery.
Twelve Degrees of Latitude: Regional Gallery and University Art Collections is the first major exhibition of works curated solely from Queensland’s regional gallery and university art collections.
Twelve Degrees of Latitude explores, at a State level, the cultural, social, geopolitical and other factors involved in the emergence and growth of Queensland’s regional and public gallery collections.
The exhibition presents works grouped into five sub-themes: Pre-20th century art (Australian and international); Landscape and figures in the landscape; other 20th century art (1900-1990); Indigenous art (Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander); and Art post-1990.
Within this broad framework is a strong sense of Queensland’s cultural identity and telling of Queensland stories.
This includes early Queensland landscapes documenting our pioneering communities; remarkable works about country by some of the State’s leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists through to works reflecting life in the tropics and the Coastal beach culture.
Three works from the University of the Sunshine Coast Collection, including one by Lawrence Daws and two by Norma Uhlmann, will be highlighted in the exhibition.

Student folio exhibition

Incorporating digital prints, graphic design, animation, illustration, websites and interactive CD-ROMs, this exhibition showcases the culmination of three years of study by advanced-level University of the Sunshine Coast Computer-Based Design students.
Students present their portfolios of digital design and commercial graphic art.

across country: Ken Hinds Cultural Collection – special edition

This exhibition is held in association with Caloundra Regional Art Gallery and the Art Park.
It presents a special selection of Ken Hinds’ outstanding collection of Australian Indigenous artwork as painting and 3-D examples.
Similar to the major touring exhibition of the same name, the exhibition to be held at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery is a special edition that presents the depth and breadth of Ken Hinds amazing collection of artworks – many works in the
display have not been available for public viewing for many years.
